Jameis Winston Admits to Sometimes Being 'Drained' From Playing Baseball and Football; QB/Closer Says He 'Loves It'

Jameis Winston's schedule is about to get a little busier and Florida State's baseball and football coaches will need to keep a close eye on the two-sport athlete's arm.

On Saturday, Winston flew into Tallahassee from Atlanta, where the Seminoles baseball team was playing Georgia Tech, to play in the spring football game. He played for the Garnet team in a 31-14 victory over the Gold team in the Seminoles football spring game.

Winston missed the Saturday baseball game in Atlanta, but recorded a save Sunday only to return to Tallahassee Monday for a football scrimmage. On Tuesday, Winston and the Seminoles baseball team play a home game. On Wednesday, he has football practice. On Thursday, he travels to North Carolina with the baseball team play Wake Forest for a three-game series.

But this is what Winston wanted. It is why he came to Florida State, because they would allow him to play football and baseball.

"I wish I could of played in [Saturday's baseball] game, I wish we had a night game so I could rush and skip all [the interviews] and play," Winston told ESPN.

Winston and the Garnet team started out with a three-and-out and three turnovers. After that, the offense got into a groove and Winston finished the game with 56 passing attempts and 396 yards.

"I thought Jameis started out slow early. We didn't have many guys open and that secondary was locking them down," Seminoles football coach Jimbo Fisher told ESPN. "We gradually got guys open and he made some throws."

The other coach, Mike Martin, also needs Winston, who is the baseball team's closer as well as a valuable pinch hitter who can bat both righty and lefty.

"That's just him," Martin told reporters. "That's just the way he operates. He loves to be involved."

The two-sport athlete agreed. His baseball season ends in late May with the ACC Tournament, but could go longer with the College World Series. The football season officially starts on August 30.

"Physically, some days I was drained. I'm a busy man. I got to study and I'm a regular college student. Football is not my job yet," Winston said. "I got to carry out my everyday life. I'm going to be tired sometimes and if Jimbo asks me, 'Jameis, are you tired?' I'm going to say, 'No, coach.' It's how college life is but I love it."
