Workers are moving faster to finish the USC Village on time. Some 2,500 students will be living in the 660 residential educational lounges by August this year. It is expected to be very conducive for studying and collaborative work.

USC Residential Education director Emily Sandoval explained that the USC Village has two kinds of residential education lounges - one is best for group studying, while the other is best for community building, USC News reported. All of the lounges have bright lighting and comfortable, modern furniture to create an atmosphere that encourages students to study or do collaborative work with their friends.

The more physical aspect of building the lounges were done really fast. Assembling, unloading, placing, and transporting the materials needed to make the lounges were done quickly. It was designing the USC Village that took the most time, which was done for several years.

The color schemes, the layouts for the spaces, the furniture style were designed by Interior designer Jan Edson, along with the USC residential education and architects. According to Edson, they chose flexible, modern furniture that brings colors into each lounge. The color theme for each building is appropriate for the landscape where it is located, he said.

Tangram Interiors' Larry Wiekel is impressed by the design of the USC Village saying he rarely sees a project that has the scale that the educational lounges has. He said that this is by far the biggest scale project he has done. He said that an 18-wheeler, 53-feet long trailer delivers materials to the site every other day.

Building each space is tedious since no two lounges are the same in the USC Village. USC Housing's Dan Moran is very happy with the result of all their hard work. There is also a big chance that USC Village will get a healthy farmers market, Daily Trojan reported.
