'World War Z 2' Release Date Cancelled: Here's Why It Will Not Happen Anytime Soon

By

"World War Z 2" is slated for a June 2017 release, however, Paramount eventually cancelled the premiere date. As of writing, the sequel still hangs in the air as the lead actor, Brad Pitt, takes on another role and project for the meantime.

'World War Z 2' Release Date Cancellation

According to Syfy, "World War Z 2" release date cancellation comes after the fact that the series lost its director. With no one replacing J.A. Bayona, who directed the films "The Orphanage", "The Impossible", and "A Monster Calls", the filming is forced to be in an "on-hold" status. The filmmaker prefers to focus more on "Jurassic World 2".

As of writing, like the above-mentioned note, the director's chair is still for free to claim by anyone who is interested in helming "World War Z 2". Several names have been tapped by the movie fans but other than that, there is still no confirmation.

Adding on to the reason is that the new script for "World War Z 2" is still in the works. There are no other details whether the storyline is already final or there are changes need to be made to fit in the sequel.

For starters, "World War Z" is about Gerry Lane and his survival stints in the zombie apocalypse. "World War Z 2" comes after the success of the first film which was Brad Pitt's highest grossing movie. Marc Foster sits in the director's chair. It is a screenplay from Drew Goddard, Matthew Michael Carnahan, and Damon Lindelof. The story is based on Max Brooks 2006 novel of the same name.

Who Will Be Paramount's Choice For 'World War Z 2' Director

Based on the aforementioned source, "World War Z 2" lead actor, Brad Pitt, raised his idea on who could helm the sequel. Rumor has it that he asked his longtime pal and director, David Fincher, to come and sit in the director's chair.

Fincher never made any sequel movie before aside from an existing franchise of "Alien", his feature debut. However, the filmmaker already made names for his projects such as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", "Fight Club", and "Seven" where Pitt served as the story's central character.

On the other hand, when it comes to Fincher's side, a source tells The Hollywood Reporter that the director is interested in heading "World War Z 2".

"[Fincher] is very creatively interested in directing the movie, "He really would like to do it," says the source. "It's up to Paramount."

As of now, no other updates whether Paramount decided to pick Fincher or not. for "World War Z 2".
