Apple Plans Updates; To Include Mac with USB-C Ports, Extends USB-C Accessories Discounts

By

Apple is planning to roll out modest updates next year for the Mac loyalist who felt left out. Meanwhile, it has also extended the discount offers on its USB-C accessories.

Apple Plans Mac with USB-C Ports

The company is preparing small updates to its products in 2017. This includes Macs with USB-C ports, iMacs with the new Advanced Micro Devices Inc. graphics chips, and minor improvements for the 12-inch Macbook and MacBook Pro's processing power, Macrumors reported. It is expected that the USB-C ports on the latest iMac models would double as Thunderbolt 3 ports like the new MacBook Pro.

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, new iMac models will be rolled out during the first half of 2017. Meanwhile, updates on current iMac models would be least likely, since it hasn't got any for almost 500 days.

There are also reports that Apple designers are planning to develop standalone desktop keyboards that comes with the Touch ID and the Touch Bar. This product will depend on how consumers receive the Touchscreen strip and fingerprint scanner on the newly released MacBook Pro models. The current Apple Magic Keyboard was rolled out in October of 2015.

Apple Extends USB-C Accessories Discounts

Meanwhile, Apple has extended the discount offer on its USB-C accessories from December 31 to March 31, next year, 9 to 5 Mac reported. This announcement is just in time for the release of the LG 5K UltraFine display, which is compatible for the new MacBook Pro.

Some of the discounted accessories are the USB-C to USB Adapter, which sells for $9 from its original price of $19. Another offer is the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter, which is only at $29 from an original price of $49. Other accessories include the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter and USB-C GA Mutliport adapter, both at only $49. Apple is offering more USB-C accessories at half the price.
