Online courses are basically courses that are affordable and accessible, and can be taken in the comforts of one's home. These courses, according to CNBC, can include highly technical courses such as Data science and UI/UX design, and are able to develop skills that are currently in-demand.

For those wanting to shape or redirect their careers, here are some reasons why online courses should be the top-priority tool, according to Forbes.

They cost really low (or even free)

Traditional college education is costly, and usually ends up in student loan debt. Online courses such as edX, Coursera, MIT OpenCourseware, and OEDb, on the other hand, offers great courses from great teachers at low prices. Some of these courses are even free.

They can give legitimate credentials

Online courses also give certificates to those who enroll. Not only are these courses free to learn, they also offer certificates that cost around $1,000, edX CEO Anant Agarwal said.

You can learn at your own pace and in your own place

Online courses can be taken inside the comforts of one's room while wearing pajamas in the morning, or in the office after work. "It's very flexible and it's free," Agarwal said.

Some courses also offer lessons to be taken at a student's pace. Meaning, these courses can be taken either by people who have a lot of free time or those who have tons of responsibilities. It's up to the student if they want it quick or slow.

Students can choose what they want to learn

Online courses give students the freedom to choose what they want to learn. Physical schools often have limited offerings, with some that are dependent on the semester. Online courses, on the other hand, offer a wide variety of courses that can be taken by anybody, with no fear of prerequisites.
