Galaxy A5 and Zenfone 3 seem to offer similar specs but there are a few differences in the two flagships. Which is better?

Galaxy A5 emphasizes heavily on the premium design. It is as elegant as you want a smartphone to be. It's also a sturdy and ergonomic phone with Gorilla Glass 4 on the back and front panels. Zenfone 3 is looking similar to the A5 but the button placements seem to be more convenient in Asus' flagship. Galaxy A5 (2016) vs Zenfone 3: Performance

The fingerprint scanner in Asus Zenfone 3 responses a little faster than in Galaxy A5. Zenfone 3 is powered by Snapdragon 625 with two RAM options: 3 GB (32 GB of internal) and 4 GB (64 GB of internal) with expandable feature.

It runs Android Marshmallow with optics department sporting 16 MP (dual LED flash, OIS and phase detection autofocus) and 8 MP cameras. It's a VR ready smartphone with LED notification - two things that Galaxy A5 lacks of.

Galaxy A5 OS is upgradable to Marshmallow. It is powered by Snapdragon 615 with 16 GB  internal storage and 2 GB RAM (expandable). The optics department pairs 16 MP and 5 MP cameras with similar features as in Zenfone 3.

Galaxy A5 user interface seems to offer a cleaner look than Zen UI 3.0. It does not have a lot of bloatware and there are many customizable features. When it comes to gaming, Zenfone 3 offers an excellent experience without any considerable lags.

Galaxy A5 packs 3,900 mAh battery capacity wherein Zenfone 3 packs 4,000 mAh. However, Samsung already equips its flagship with fast-charging feature.  

Galaxy A5 (2016) or Zenfone 3?
