"One Piece" creator Eiichiro Oda once told a former editor that he must be willing to die for the series. It did not take long to realize he was serious.

Former "One Piece" Editor Remembers "Pep" Talk

Naoki Kawashima was a former editor of the "One Piece" manga series. In a recent interview, he recounted his first meeting with Oda as the new editor for the manga publication. The creator told Kawashima to "die for One Piece." Initially, he thought Oda was joking but then realized. It did not take long however, to realized that the creator was dead serious, according to Kotaku.

Oda's "One Piece" Work Routine

Oda's dedication to his work is legendary He did not only create "One Piece" but he is also its writer and illustrator. He works through most of the day including the night and does even take a holiday. It is said that he only gets an average sleep of three hours. Kawashima was inspired to do the same in editing the "One Piece" manga series.

"One Piece" Success

The creator would definitely be proud of his work. "One Piece" received numerous praises for its artwork and humor although some are critical of its story telling style. "One Piece" has also branched out to Anime shows and several animated films. More than 380 million copies of the manga series have been printed and distributed around the world. This makes "One Piece" the world's bestseller in the manga category.

"One Piece" Storyline

"One Piece" tells the story of a young adventurer and pirate, Monkey D Luffy. One day he accidentally ate a Devil Fruit which cause his body to be elastic as rubber. He assembled motley and named their group as the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy intends to assume the title King of Pirates but he needs the fabled treasure called "One Piece" in order to be recognized as such.
