With "The Vampire Diaries" entering its eighth and final season, the show is expected to hit fans' throwback feels. As previously rumored, many of the shows past characters are expected to make a comeback, including leading lady Nina Dobrev. The actress' return in Mystic Falls opens a lot of possibility, including a revival of her rivalry with BFF Caroline Forbes.

"The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec previously revealed her plans to bring back Dobrev for the show's final run. There have been a lot of theories as to how Elena Gilbert might return to the show, and one of which is that she might be the one to save Damon from being consumed by the evil creature that currently possesses him.

While Elena's comeback might be a welcome treat to many fans, it might pose a threat to Steroline. In recall, when the show first started the story, it revolved around Elena and Stefan's love story. Stefan was Elena's first love as she was his.

Stefan and Caroline are currently together, but the situation with Damon might bring Stefan and Elena closer together. As reported by TVLine, Plec revealed that Steroline's relationship will not go without any trouble.

"You know, I always say that the saddest and truest rule of television is that there's no drama in happy," Plec said, adding that happiness can be as comforting as a bowl of hot soup when you're sick.

"I'd really like to see Caroline and Stefan enjoy some of that comfort for as long as we can eek it out, before they have to stumble across another obstacle."

Similarly, actress Candice King said in an interview that Stefan and Caroline will go through "trials and tribulations" in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

If Elena does appear, Caroline and Stefan will still have enough time with each other before all the madness ensues. Actor Paul Wesley told Zap2it that Steroline will have a steamy scene in the first episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

"We're only on episode 1, that's the only thing I've read so far, and it's hot and steamy right from the get-go," Wesley teased.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 premieres on The CW on Oct. 21.
