Pebble Smart Watch Available Online at Best Buy Today

By

While Samsung, Google and Apple all continue to develop their own version of a super-computing smart-watch, tech company Pebble's is already for sale, 9to5mac.com reported.

Pebble's Smart Watch is already for sale online at BesyBuy.com and will hit the retailer's shelves on July 7. It does not run either iOS or Android, but rather complements either the iPhone or an Android smartphone via Bluetooth.

Tech website, 9 To 5 Mac cited two Best Buy employees as saying they were briefed by management that the store would begin selling the watch. Their claim was later backed up when the product showed up for sale on the company's website.

Pebble's Smart Watch began as a Kickstarter project and set the fund raising website's record for most money raised with $10 million. The company began selling their product to Kickstarter users, then sold them on their website and this weekend, they will make their retail debut, selling for $150.

"We've learned that people want their Pebbles," Pebble Technology Corp. CEO Eric Migicovsky said in a statement. "Thanks to Best Buy, we're giving folks more ways to make that happen."

The watch has a wide range of functions, like being able to view text messages, make calls, read notifications from various apps and, of course, tell the time.

The watch will be available in jet-black in the store, with the addition of cherry-red in August. Online, customers can pick from orange, gray or white.

Pebble's Smart Watch will not be the first of its kind in Best Buy stores; the company already sells Sony's SmartWatch Bluetooth 3.0.

The news comes in the wake of reports that Google, Samsung and Apple are all developing their own smart-watches. Rather than trying to compete with the tech giants, Pebble came out ahead of them to get a head start.

"It's been so rewarding to see and share the great things our early backers and development partners have done with Pebble already," Migicovsky said. "Their work and our evolving app ecosystem has kept demand very high. Best Buy's partnership with us is a big step towards meeting that demand."
