Olympics 2016: Usain Bolt Attempts To Pull Off An Unprecedented Triple; Can He Achieve This Feat?

By

The history-chasing escapade of Usain Bolt is slated to be in the spotlight as the Olympic track and field competition kicks off on Friday with the drug-impaired sport looking for revival after months of disgrace and embarrassment.

No prizes for guessing, this will be left on track and field's greatest showman, Bolt to bring back the feel-good factor as the sport tries its level best to turn over a new leaf on the infamous Russian doping scandal and corruption accusations.

In his last Olympics, the lauded Jamaican sprinter will be trying to achieve 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay gold after sweeping the titles back in 2008 and 2012, FirstPost reported.

Bolt is trying to achieve an unprecedented 'triple triple.' If he manages to carry out this feat, he will establish himself as the greatest sprinter in history.

Just as before, Bolt is scheduled to compete in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m at the Olympic Games. He'd face a cutthroat competition from his arch-rival, USA's Justin Gatlin, who has recorded some very impressive fast-times this season and more importantly, has mostly been free of injury.

The fastest man ever timed (9.80 seconds) who has regularly snapped at the big Jamaican's heels in major competitions, is part of a thrilling on-track rivalry, though there is lots of respect off it, according to Rio 2016 official website.

Bolt's main competitor in 200m is USA's LaShawn Merritt, who stunned the athletics community with an unbelievable 19.74 earlier this year and incredibly has clocked under 19.80 three times already this year. However, "Lightning Bolt" has affirmed on several occasions that he intends to break the world record he set of 19.19.
