Recent 2016 Rio Olympics results revealed that Michael Phelps has just won his 22nd gold medal. This shows a continuation of his outstanding performance in the sports event of the year.

TIME reported that Michael Phelps nabbed the 22nd gold medal of his career on Thursday. He beat his rivals in the 200m individual medley for the fourth time.

Japan's Kosuke Hagino got the silver medal after he came up short by nearly a body-length from Phelps. China's Wang Shun got bronze. Fellow American Ryan Lochte finished fifth.

Phelps' recent 2016 Rio Olympics win is his 13th individual gold medal. This makes him the world's most decorated Olympian.

"Right now, I don't know how to wrap my head around that," he said. "I don't know that to say. It's been a hell of a career."

According to BBC, Phelps posted a time of one minute and 54.66 seconds. He has won four gold medals the 2016 Rio Olympics alone for the following events: 200m butterfly, 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x200m freestyle relay along with his recent win in the 200m individual medley.

Meanwhile, Ryan Murphy took home the gold for Team USA in the men's 200m backstroke event with a time of one minute and 53.62 seconds. This comes after he won the 100m backstroke on Monday.

Simone Manuel also made history for the U.S. as she set the new Olympic record in the 100m freestyle event. She is also the first African American woman to win an individual swimming gold medal.

"I'm super glad that I can an inspiration to others and help diversify the sport," she said. "But at the same time, I would like there to be a day where there are more of us. And it's not Simone the black swimmer. The title of black swimmer makes it seem like I'm not supposed to be able to win a gold medal, or I'm not supposed to be able to break records. That's not true. I work just as hard as anybody else, and I love the sport, and I want to win just like everybody else."
