An inspiring gift - Mark Taubman described Dr. Dennis A. Clements and Dr. Martha Ann Keel's gift of $1 million for University of Rochester.

The CEO of University of Rochester Medical Center expressed his gratitude for their generosity in helping to improve healthcare in the community.

The fund will benefit for faculty students, researches and clinical studies

Dr. Clements, a UR alumnus, recalled the day he went to Uganda for a health mission. From then, he realized that people can help others by being aware of their cultures. The chief of Pediatric Primary Care at Duke Children Hospital praised University of Rochester education system in shaping the person he's become.

For years, Dr. Clements has been traveling to rural areas with his students to provide health care. He believes that by viewing other places and cultures, students will gain more experiences and be able to provide better medical services back at home, UR Medical Center reported.

Half of the total fund will be used for pediatric dentistry - a field where Dr. Keels has been working for decades. According to her, there is a challenge in giving health care for children with special needs. For instance, as these children grow older, they may need more health professionals - nurse, assistant - a team of experts that will better serve the children with special needs.

Both philanthropists decided to give the fund after hearing that EIOH was rewarded with $3.5 million fund for dentists and pediatrics training needs. Dr. Keels's experience has taught her that training experts is a vital approach since not many dentists are comfortable treating an adult with special needs.

Dr. Clements and wife are passionate about healthcare for children and they believe that UR School of Medicine and EIOH's unique work is aligned with their mission to give better medical services.
