1 EKU Football Player, 3 From KU Involved in Bar Fight, But Was It Assault?

By

Local police have disclosed some details in a bar fight involving an Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) football player and three from the University of Kentucky (UK).

The father of EKU lineman Colton Scurry confirmed to the Louisville Courier Journal his son was involved in the fight, but said he was jumped by as many as four people. To people who identified themselves as students at EKU told the newspaper it was three UK football players, but that Scurry instigated the altercation.

The witnesses named Drew Barker, Dorian Baker and Tymere Dubose, though the police did not disclose the names of those involved. The fight took place around 12:30 a.m. Sunday was reported around 5 p.m. the same day. The report states the aggressors "began hitting the complainant repeatedly in the head" and "at one point the complainant reported losing consciousness."

Scurry was walking back to campus after the fight, the Journal reported, and suffered cuts on his face that required stitches, as well as broken bones in an eye socket, his nose and cheek. Soon after he began walking back to campus, Scurry was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

"We are currently investigating information reported to us regarding a possible assault on one of our students in an off-campus location, as well as a possible related incident in Telford Hall that may have occurred late Saturday night or early Sunday morning," EKU said in a statement. "We can not divulge the name the students who may have been involved at this time. This is all I know at this time."

While the school may be approaching the situation as an assault on one of its football players, but some witness accounts suggest Scurry got himself into the fight. But the photo obtained by Deadspin and other media outlets of Scurry after the fight is pretty gruesome.
