MacBook Air Retina Display Not Expected to Be Unveiled Friday (REPORT), What Else May Not Make an Appearance?

By

While scouring the Internet for what to expect Apple to unveil later this week at its second fall event, it is important to take note of what the company is holding back.

For example, Re/Code reported Monday that Apple is not going to unveil MacBook Air laptops with the ultra-crisp Retina display. John Paczkowski cited unnamed sources who said such a laptop is still in development for Apple, just not for an imminent release.

Apple has officially confirmed an event for Friday, Oct. 16 with the ironic message, "It's been way too long." Tim Cook and co. are apparently not done rolling out their new devices for 2014 since introducing newer, bigger iPhones as well as the company's first ever smart watch.

Expected to headline Friday's event is the second iPad Air, which should have a Retina HD display, a Touch ID fingerprint scanner and an A8X processing chip. But that would not do as the only new thing Apple showed off.

Also expected to be unveiled is the new iMac Apple's customers were really waiting for, which apparently was not the lower cost models released in June. According to Tech Crunch, the new iMacs are expected to have the Retina HD display. The desktop computer never seems to drum as much excitement as Apple's other products, but they are still impressive machines.

Also due out is OS X Yosemite, the desktop computer operating system that Apple has detailed at length already. This should be a free download to anyone with a Macintosh computer.

What not to expect:

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that a 12.9-inch iPad will have to wait until 2015, but it could be a 2-in-1 device that runs a blended iOS - OS X operating system.

Tech Crunch noted that Apple may or may not give customers an ETA on when in 2015 to expect the Apple Watch to hit shelves. Also, Apple has been rumored to be working on a television set device with iOS and OS X integration, but there has not been much indication if that is presentation-ready.
