South Carolina vs Texas A&M LIVE STREAM/Preview: Manziel and Shaw to Root On Alma Maters From Browns' Sideline

By

The South Carolina Gamecocks (9) and the Texas A&M Aggies (21) are set to kick off the SEC Network with the conference's first game of the season.

Ironically enough, both team's starting quarterbacks are now teammates on the Cleveland Browns, who play the Chicago Bears the same night. Johnny Manziel and Connor Shaw will be preparing for their team's final preseason game when the matchup between their alma maters is set to kickoff.

"They are probably a little bit like us that they haven't had a bunch of superstars to talk about this preseason," South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier said before the game, according to the Associated Press. "Their players are anxious to earn their way, just like our guys."

Manziel had an impressive follow-up to his Heisman season last year for the Aggies and now Kenny Hill is taking his place. A similar player to Manziel, Hill's transition from backup to starter should be made simpler since head football coach Kevin Sumlin would not need to alter the offense all too much.

While far less heralded, Shaw had a nice season for the Gamecocks, throwing 24 touchdowns against one interception. But the offense should center on the running game, as Mike Davis is coming off a season where he ran for 1,183 yards and 5.8 per carry. South Carolina is also missing its premier pass rusher, Jadeveon Clowney, who was taken first overall in the NFL Draft.

While Manziel officially did not win the Browns' starting QB job, Shaw is fighting for a spot as the team's third passer. While his focus will be squarely on the Bears defense when he gets a chance to play, Shaw will be representing his alma mater underneath his Browns gear.
