The advancement of technology is coupled with knowledge because both cannot exist without the other. And universities are the main source when it comes to knowledge. But which cities contain the most leading universities?

In order to find out which metro around the world has the most leading universities in them, Martin Prosperity used the latest data from the World University Ranking of Times Higher Education. The data revealed that Los Angeles and London tie in first place with four leading universities found in both areas.

Hong Kong, Boston/Cambridge, and Berlin occupy the second place with three leading universities in them. Third place, on the other hand, is shared by 14 cities which have two leading universities found in each city. These 14 cities include Beijing, New York, Chicago, Singapore, Atlanta, Sydney, Melbourne, Pittsburgh, Stockholm, Munich, Liege, The Hague, Durham/Chapel Hill, and Utrecht. Below are the details which universities are in each of these metros.

Los Angeles - UCLA, University of California - Irvine, California Institute of Technology, and University of Southern California

London - King's College, Imperial College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, and University College London

Boston/Cambridge - MIT, Boston University, Harvard University

Hong Kong - Chines University of Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Berlin - Humboldt University, Technical University of Berlin, and Free University of Berlin

Atlanta - Emory University and Georgia Institute of Technology

Beijing - Peking University and Tsinghua University

Chicago - Northwestern University and University of Chicago

Durham/Chapel Hill - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University

Liege - RWTH Aachen University and Maastricht University

Melbourne - Monash University and University of Melbourne

Munich - Technical University of Munich and LMU Munich

New York - New York University and Columbia University

Pittsburgh - Carnegie Mellon University and University of Pittsburgh

Singapore - Nanyang Technological University and Singapore National University

Stockholm - Uppsala University and Karolinska Institute

Sydney - the University of Sydney and University of New South Wales

The Hague - Leiden University and Delft University of Technology

Utrecht - Utrecht University and the Wageningen University
