There have been six teams to top The Associated Press' college basketball poll, but the Kansas Jayhawks are now the first team to return there.

Kansas is now on a nine-game winning streak and the team has now all but locked up its 12th straight Big 12 regular season title. The Jayhawks can do just that with a win on the road over Texas (23) Monday night or when they host Iowa State (21) Friday.

After losing to Xavier (5), Villanova (3) fell from atop to the Top 25 while Michigan State (2), another former number-one, rose four places on the strength of wins over Ohio State and Penn State. The other three former number-one teams, Oklahoma (6) fell three places, North Carolina (8) fell one, and Kentucky (22) fell six.

According to The AP, the record for the amount of teams ranked first in the nation was set during the 1982-1983 season. Virginia (4) figures to have the best shot at breaking the record, though that would require unlikely circumstances.

Facing self-imposed postseason bans, Louisville (11) and SMU (24) are looking to close out their seasons on top of their conferences. SMU is tied atop the AAC with games scheduled against UConn and Cincinnati while Louisville is a game back with Georgia Tech and Virginia left on its schedule.
